Name: Lake Baccarac Lodge
Hottest Baits:
Swimbaits, spiinerbaits, crankbaits, buzzbaits
Date Fished:
September 27th - 30th
Comments: While fishing with
Sixto Figeroa, obviously, the numbers are back. Our boat
caught 62 bass between 1 1/2 to 4 lbs. on Thursday
afternoon. We caught 11 bass between 5 and 8 lbs. This
is quite exciting, considering we could not find this
size largemouth bass most of last season. The bigger
fish did not show up for any of us in three days at the
lodge, which is not typical for this time of year, but
we do except that as the water continues to rise, the
big bass will come out of the deep and be at more
catchable levels. I can say that fishing lighter line
with smaller presentations produced the better numbers.
Lake Baccarac is currently 83% full and rising, with
afternoon rains almost daily up in the mountains. We did
not see much in cloud cover around the lake. We will
have another bass fishing report in one week.
Lake Baccarac 2008/2009 Bass Fishing Season Summary
What a season it was at Lake Baccarac. Fishing in October started out with nothing but huge bass, literally with a 6 lb. average, sometimes not catching largemouth under 6 or 7 lbs. for the entire trip. Many personal bests. Read the report from Bobby Knight, from Gil Wright, from Greg Riggle during the beginning of October 2008. One guest came back testifying, this is the best trip I have ever been on fishing 20 years in Mexico, with nine bass over 11 lbs. and 32 fish over 10 lbs. and an estimated 100 black bass over 8 lbs. on his October 21st trip.
With the late October hurricane, the lake was flooded and fishing changed dramatically. Clients were still landing plenty of big fish, but numbers of fish caught were very low. With the high water and high population of shad, it was very hard at times to get the bass interested in biting artificial lures. There were many isolated stories about excellent numbers and excellent big fish, but after October, there were many challenging days on the water. Gil Wright, who is a monthly guest at the camp, had a great trip in November, catching 13 over 10 lbs. and 36 bass over 9 lbs. Go back and read Tom Redington's report from the first of December - unbeliveable big fish action.
Predicting the numbers would pick up at some point, we did not really see great action again until June, although all during the season, without a doubt, the average big fish this season was larger than the average big fish last season. We started the new year out January 1 with multiple 14 lb. bass. We continued to have sometimes unbelievable action and incredible numbers, but sometimes we had neither. All of this was contributed to by the overpopulation of shad and the high water all season.
In summary, by the time late May and June came around, Baccarac was repeating what it had done the year before. As a forecast for next season, we look for great fishing. We saw an incredible spawn in the spring of 2009. Those new fish will absolutely devour the excess shad in the lake.Baccarac, without a doubt, is and will remain the best bass lake in Mexico. The bass fishing season on Lake Baccarac is gearing up and it promises to be a great one. Call us today: Toll Free 888.479.BASS (2277)

Comments: March 5th to March 9th report: Russ reporting great big bass action over the weekend. The Lizard bite is the best with some really good Zara Spook action early morning. It seems that the best boats are catching upward of 80 bass per day with Gary Whitehead catching 110 fish the morning of the 8th.
This report just in from Jack Anslover who just returned from his bass fishing trip: " Better trip than last year at the same time" reports Jack. His big bass was 12.9 pounds. Mike Smith also caught an 11.8 and Jesse Smith 9.8 pound bass with boats in his group catching over 100 bass a day using 6 inch Pumpkin Lizards. Mike Smiths best day was 140 bass.
The morning of the 9th of March: WOW Mike Hinnekkamp group reported excellent fishing results the first morning on the water with 7 of the 12 in the group catching bass over 10 and breaking their personal best: 7 inch watermelon and pumpkin seed senkos worked best in the shallows. Bass fishing today at Lake Baccarac is outstanding according to all anglers at the lodge.
We now have a bigger plane operating out of El Paso direct to the Lodge at Lake Baccarac so on many of the flights we have 2 extra seats. We also have a couple of spots that we have discounted deep.

Hottest Colors: white spinners, popin image baby bass, senkos gray/white...watermelon seed, black / blue worms
Date Fished: Feb. 18th - Feb 24th
Comments: As good as bass fishing was last week the bite took a little break yesterday the 23rd with no bass over 10 pounds to report but we did have some very nice 8 and 9 pound fish caught in the flats in the ranch area. Pedro's boat produced the best numbers fishing a weightless 8 inch watermelon lizard. The weather has warmed up since the beginning of the month and has been near perfect bass fishing weather.
FEBRUARY 21ST - Gil Wright gets another big bass - 13.7 lbs. on a 1 oz. white spinner. Our guide Alfonzo, who we mentioned below on February 20, gets another three more over 10 lbs. with his guests. He has made his mark and now is without a doubt putting his clients on the best bass fishing spots.
FEBRUARY 20TH - The last three days - February 18 , 19 and 20 - on the lake have been fantastic. There have been 25 bass over 10 lbs. caught. The largest was brought in by Bob Gist of Oklahoma City - a 14.12. This fish beat his personal best by over three lbs. Ten minutes later, his buddy Gil Wright, also of Oklahoma City, landed a 12.5 bass off the same submerged island. Jimmy Manley of Marianna, Arkansas who had only been fishing a day and a half, has caught two over 12, two over 11 and four bass over 9. Where else but Lake Baccarac?
Denis Bootenhoff of Oklahoma City, had caught his personal best back at the first of January at Baccarac, now broke his personal best record again by catching a 12.12 this week. Peter Riley, who was at Baccarac filming Aaron's Outdoors TV show, caught an 11.15 and his comment was simple: "Baccarac is to bass what Churchill Downs is to horses." JUST THIS MORNING, Friday, Feb. 20: Peter Riley caught two 12 lb bass.
Pete Hollar caught two over 12 and two over 11 and while the fishing was slow for his trip this time, said "Baccarac is unreal."
Lodge guide Pauli, using a watermelon lizard with no weight, Texas Style, has racked up the numbers - numerous black bass over 8 lbs and his boat has been catching over 100 a day. Not to be outdone, lodge guide Alfonzo has caught more big largemouth bass than any other guide on the water in the last two weeks.

Comments: FEBRUARY 6th UPDATE -RUSS JOHNSON AT THE LODGE Fishing has improved steadily, with many more numbers. The lost 11 lb bass showed up on the 4th and the 5th Big Lake "Baccarac" is shaking off the rust and the groups are starting to see several more trophy bass. The Harold Bade group landed two 11 LBERs and four 10 lb bass. Jim Day's first cast of his trip produced a 11.14. Lots of small fish on the banks right now with several big fish starting to show up but I still think it will be a while before the bigger bass up in mass.
It's no problem finding 50 to 70 bass a day right now in the shallows the bite is slower than last year but improving and we starting to see more trophies added to the trophy board at the Lodge. Smaller senkos are working much better than the bigger stuff right now. the Zara Spook bite is starting to pick up. I think the bigger bass are making an attempt to move shallow and when they do.......Baccarac will be BACK.

Comments: Report from Russ Johnson at the Lodge on Jan 21st - Cool morning but warming very quickly. We have had some cloud cover lasting until mid afternoon. Catching 30 bass a up to 9 pounds using mostly 5 inch watermelon senkos, they don't like the 7 inch senko this year. White 1/2 oz spinnerbaits producing fish on the bank but these bank fish don't have much size. The water level is starting to drop about 6 inches a day. We are locating many bass suspending in 100ft of water not relating to any structure at al. Topwater is very spotty.
Morning report From Jan 22nd - most boats catching 15 bass this morning Dan Peirson caught 2 bass over 10 pounds fishing the long points. Russ reports a little better bite on the points this morning. The afternoon of the 22nd sticking with the morning pattern did find fish once again Long points are holding good numbers of bass. Our Guides Pedro and Sixto have been finding the best bite. 4 inch Bass trix swimbaits are working very well along with Gary Yamamoto root beer senkos.
Jan. 23rd fishing report - The mornings continue to be cool until lunch. The fishing/catching the past two mornings has been much better early morning with senkos, flukes, small swimbaits. A few topwater bass but not many early morning. The afternoon bite has been very slow and no patterns seem to work as the fish move out in deeper water. We are seeing many bass in the 30 ft suspended in with the shad.
Morning Report Jan 26th - Fishing very spotty with one boat only catching 7 bass and the best boat catching 33 bass with 2 fish over 10 pounds. It is the same story with bass patterns not holding from day to day and many suspended bass in 100 ft of water. White 6 inch senkos and white super flukes produced the bigger bass this morning. Area near Carezo is holding some nice bass.

Comments: Early in the week the bass fishing was good as we had lots of cloud cover. The high blue skies have really slowed down the fishing. Mike Drain and his group did pull 4 bass over 10 from the Lake this afternoon the 10th of January. It does seem that the shad in the lake are just much more attractive than the lures. More reports will be coming soon. We are filming TV shows are both Huites and Baccarac with hook.TV .. this coming week

Comments: Fishing remains very challenging with big fish being caught on swimbaits and bigger rattletraps. Currently the bass have plenty of shad to eat and do not seem excited about taking lures of any kind. The first good cold snap will kill a lot of the extra shad and the catch rates will turn back to normal .. Yesterday was very good day for numbers with Narlin Salazar boat catching more than 40 bass.
Dec 17th big fish but low numbers
Dec 18th report from Russ : Over all the numbers caught very low unless you run the banks with Watermelon lizards but better numbers of 10 plus pound bass caught using Shad Knockers 7" inch surface water temp is 76

Hottest Baits: Swimbaits, spinnerbaits, and some topwater, sluggos....Hot bait Chatter Baits
Date Fished: Nov 5th to the 7th
Comments: Sam Wade- Fishing mainly around the inlands and the submerged brush topwater fishing was good with some bass up to 11 pounds. Using 15 year old 9 inch sluggos bass fishing was excellent. The bite is very slow but the weightless sluggos produced a bass almost every 4th or 5th cast. Never have I caught so many bass over 6 pounds at one brush pile. I highly recommend Alonzo as a guide.
From Terry Hollan We still have lots of high water and we need the water level to drop about 5 ft and we need a weather change. The high water conditions are still causing a very slow bite!
Nov 5th results: Excellent according to Narlin Salazar ....With chatter baits producing the biggest bass with Morris Shaw catching 13.8 and 10.7 ......all boats landed huge bass but still very little topwater.
Nov 6th results: Big bass again and the numbers are getting better. The water is coming down off the brush and the activity has increased. Suspending Rattling Rogues produced the best numbers and the biggest bass with 7 fish over 10 pounds caught. Guide Alonzo was again the best guide on the water Tommy Baxter report We caught 27 fish from 6.8-10.14. One of the guys we flew with caught a 13.7

Comments: The numbers of bass were down compared to past trips but the size of the bass caught at Lake Baccarac was incredible. In four days we caught well over 100 bass that weighed 7lbs or more. The topwater bite was outstanding. I have never experienced big bass exploding on a topwater bait the way they did this trip. I can't say enough about Manuel our guide, the food, the accommodations, the staff and Russ is always helpful and fun to talk to. Can't wait to go back to Baccarac in April. Very important The best bait today Oct 31st was storm 7 inch suspending swimbaits... Unreal results .... bring em if you got em

Along with that, Greg himself caught a 12.9.Very high water with the lake being over 100% full has created the numbers of fish to be down but the best size we've seen. Coach Bobby Knight's group of 16 having the same results as the Riggle group. Jim Lewis, Mark Dalise, Bobby Knight - in the first 1/2 day of fishing all landed their personal best.
