Pacific Fins Guatemala Sportfishing Resort

Guatemala Sailfish

Guatemala Sport Fishing

Guatemala is the Billfishing Capital of the World – If calm waters and multiple shots at marlin and sailfish every day excite you, then the Pacific coast of Guatemala is your paradise. Guatemala is known for being a hot spot for large Pacific sailfish with the top boats averaging 15 to 20 bites a day. Marlin in the 300 to 700 pound class have always been regularly caught in the area, but in 2007 it has not been uncommon to see the top captains raising 4 or more marlin in a day. Now Guatemala is no longer known for just being the world's best place to sailfish, because the marlin bite in Guatemala has been second to none in 2007.

The Pacific coast of Guatemala features some of the world’s most consistently calm billfishing waters. Fishing normally takes place in an area called the “Pocket”, a deep underwater canyon that is 15 miles wide. On many days fishing will start between only 10 and 20 miles offshore. Combine this great fishery with the comfort and hospitality of the Pacific Fins Resort and you have a recipe for an incredible adventure fishing experience.

Dorado in Guatemala

Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado (Dolphin), and Yellow Fin Tuna are the most common species in the area. But make no mistake about it, this is the best sailfishing spot in the world. On average, you can experience 15 to 20 bites a day and during the peak season of November through May, 40 or more bites is not uncommon. The top boats release over 2,000 sailfish a year. On March 11, 2006, Captain Ron Hamlin set the daily release record with an unbelievable 124 sailfish. These Pacific Sailfish average 80 to 90 pounds, but fish over 100 pounds are common.
